Carholme Road Exterior Visual Long

Carholme Road
Forest Hill, London (Residential) / £550k

New development for two contemporary houses on an end of terrace site for a private developer. A stepped section increases sell-able area whilst being respectful of the neighbouring townscape

The proposal has been designed to stitch into the existing local street grain. To the front, the tallest building mass speaks to the scale of the neighbouring house. The proposal steps down towards the rear to respond to a newly approved two-storey dwelling. This stepping of mass avoids the new dwellings and the existing end of the terrace house from being isolated individual developments and brings them together as a form of a street, akin to the pattern of development seen elsewhere on Marler Road.

The rhythm and proportions of the new facade have been drawn from the existing building and its terraced neighbours. The existing bay window has been absorbed into the new scheme and given a contemporary look and in so doing extends the character of the old buildings along the road.
