Île de Re
Île de Re is an emerging proposal for an extension and internal reconfiguration of an existing rural town house in the fishing village of Le Gillieux on an island off the west coast of France. The house is used as a family holiday home for five generations, each with differing needs.
The current plan is fragmented after a series of unsympathetic historical additions, resulting in a layout which does not suit the needs of a growing family. Our proposal retains and enhances the inner courtyards, protects the 100 year old vines and historical well which are sacred components and dear to the family.
The design seeks to resolve the current connectivity and functionality issues that exist, providing a cohesive new layout of separate buildings which meander around the inner and outer courtyards.
